A fossil from before recorded history stood up in a scrapyard at the far end of time. He is the one who could say how the Blokyz began. The memory will not load.
Before the first tribe, before the first Shaman looked up and the first Tinkerer took something apart, there were the Sleepers. Stone-bodied. Bloky-sized. Adrift. Nobody knows how they got there.
Space fossils of beings that were once Blokyz, and the only things from this era close to a Blokyz in size. Their proportions suggest most modern Blokyz are descended from them. How they came to be out there has never been answered.
Blokyz — the description carried by every Sleeper token
The Blokyverse keeps its beginning locked. Two accounts, both believed, neither provable, and the canon says plainly that neither will ever be confirmed. The Forgotten Years that hold the answer are never explained. That is a design decision, not a delay.
So a Sleeper cannot have a story in the Forgotten Years. He can only have a story in the era that finds him. This one was found at the bottom of a scrap bay in the Future era, in a heap of discarded bodies, by a girl looking for something else. He is one of seventy-nine. He is the only one anybody has seen stand up.
Where his face should be there is a band of colour. Red, green, yellow, violet, torn sideways, scattered into blocks. The trait is called 404. Three of ten thousand Blokyz carry it.
404 means not found. He is the one being alive who could, in principle, answer the most important question in the Blokyverse. When he reaches for the memory, the signal fails to load. What plays instead is the rainbow. He cannot tell anyone how the Blokyz began. He can only show them that the memory exists, and that it is beautiful, and that it is broken.
The Temple sees an angel. A ring hangs above his head that nobody hung. The Order sees a corrupted transmission that a good technician could clean in a week. Both are right. Both are wrong that this settles anything. The mystery is not withheld by the writers. It is withheld by his own head.
At rest. The world is quiet enough to hear.
Something near him is old. A relic, a Small God, a lie.
He has found something worth hearing.
Danger, or a memory almost loading. These look the same.
A fossil again. Each time, he wakes with less.
Offline is the clock. He does not age and he cannot die, but he can stop. Nobody has to threaten him. Time already is.

Cracked hardware gets dumped in Salvage. So do dead bodies. So, sometimes, do relics, when the people who own them have finished with them.
A Netizen called Kess is digging through the heap for a chip that still works, because hers cracked and the network dropped her. She finds a head that does not match the others. Layered stone. A socket in the crown. A ring lying in the dust beside it. A face with no face.
A collector is already there, lifting a blank Sleeper head out of the pile. One of the ones still asleep. One of his own.
The face switches on. A single mark: ^. Alert. The first thing he ever says is not this one. And when the collector's cube head comes off in a spray of colour, it bleeds the same rainbow the Sleepers carry. Nobody on the page says why. Nobody in the series will, for a long time.
It begins in a scrapyard with a girl who wants a working chip. It ends with which of three futures the species gets. Nothing in between skips a rung.
No season reaches for the rung above it. In the first season nobody names an institution and nobody says the word ancestor. The two faiths do not exist yet as far as the story is concerned, because they do not exist to a girl digging in a scrapyard for a chip. Each season the world gets one size larger, and it was always this big. Only the frame moves.
The audience will be ahead of the characters the whole way, and that is the engine. You know what a Sleeper is from the first frame. Nobody on screen says it aloud for two seasons.
Two things never get bigger. He never gains a power, never speaks and never remembers; the world grows around a character who only ever loses. And the question is exactly as unanswerable in the last episode as in the first. What grows is the number of people who need it answered.
Static is a kind of truth.
A memory that will not load. A citizen the network cannot find. A craftsman the record never named. All three phrases come from the tokens' own official descriptions.
One of seventy-nine. The only one anyone has seen stand up. He is not looking for the answer. He is looking for the others.
Her chip cracked and the network stopped being able to find her. She dug him out looking for a replacement. Unimpressed by miracles.

Three broken things walk in the same direction. A fossil whose memory returns not found. A Netizen the network cannot find. A Bot Smith whose work is credited to nobody. Three kinds of 404. She can be fixed and is not sure she wants to be. He can fix things and learns which ones he must not. Niji is the thing that must not be.
The series never answers the question of the beginning. In the last scene the static clears for one frame. We see his face change. We are never shown what he saw. Then he gets up and keeps walking.
